After his military service, he worked as a lawyer in Los Angeles. In 1971, Wells joined Warner Bros. as vice president and chief financial officer. He played a key role in the success of films like "Superman" and "The Exorcist." In 1982, Wells became the president and chief operating officer of Warner Bros. He was known for his financial acumen and negotiation skills. Wells was also an avid mountaineer and climbed several major peaks, including Mount Everest. Tragically, on April 3, 1994, he died in a helicopter crash while returning from a ski trip in Nevada. His untimely death was a great loss to the business and mountaineering communities.
