Aaron McKie was born on October 12, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is an American former professional basketball player and current coach. McKie played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 13 seasons, primarily as a shooting guard and small forward. McKie attended Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, where he excelled in basketball. He was named the Philadelphia Player of the Year in 1990 and led his team to the Public League championship. McKie's outstanding performance earned him a scholarship to Temple University. At Temple, McKie played under legendary coach John Chaney. He had an impressive college career, becoming one of the most decorated players in Temple's history. McKie was a three-time Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year (1993, 1994, 1995) and a two-time First Team All-American (1994, 1995). He finished his college career as Temple's all-time leading scorer with 2,207 points. In the 1994 NBA Draft, McKie was selected 17th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he was immediately traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he spent his rookie season. McKie's tenure with the Pistons was short-lived, as he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1995. It was with the 76ers that McKie found his NBA home. He played a crucial role as a versatile swingman off the bench, providing scoring, defense, and leadership.
